Tragedy and paternity

Missouri residents, even if not fans of rap music, may recall the untimely and tragic slaying of next generation superstar XXXTENTACION last summer. The artist, who was quickly becoming a favorite among teens and young adults, was slain in a hail of gunfire. His girlfriend at the time had recently found out she was carrying a child, and she is now asking the court for help to prove paternity.

The baby boy was born about seven months after his father’s murder. The mother of the child says that, so far, no one has questioned the child’s paternity, but she does not want any trouble down the road. Though the rapper himself reportedly acknowledged that he was indeed the father, a DNA test could remove any current or future doubt.

The child’s mother is asking the court to provide a DNA sample taken during the slain rapper’s autopsy. She hopes that establishing paternity will lay any questions to rest. For the child, it may help to have an answer as to who his father really was, and would also entitle the child to collect support from the estate of the deceased man.

Establishing paternity is important for any child. If a Missouri parent needs help doing so, he or she has the option to contact an experienced attorney. An attorney can help a parent navigate the legal process of establishing paternity, helping to ensure that father and child have the best chance to have a relationship, and that a father can provide his child with all the support he or she needs to learn and grow.
