Following divorce, Missouri parents often have to make arrangements to meet their former spouses so their children can switch houses. A sheriff’s department in another state has created a safe zone to help mitigate potential negative consequences during child custody exchanges.
The safe zone is located in the parking lot behind the sheriff’s office. It is monitored through surveillance equipment 24 hours per day. Anyone using the safe zone is made aware that constant surveillance is in place. Parents can use this location as their permanent meeting place for child custody exchanges.
For those who feel unsafe or uncomfortable meeting in private areas, the new safe zone comes as a welcome alternative. Most divorced parents in Missouri are willing to cooperate and compromise with their former spouses for the sake of their children.
